After DHS Silence, Hickenlooper Demands Meeting with ICE on “Death Cards” Incident

WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper released the following statement after the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) failed to respond to a letter he sent with Senator Michael Bennet and Representatives Diana DeGette, Joe Neguse, Jason Crow, and Brittany Pettersen demanding a DHS briefing and independent investigation into reports that "death cards" were left in the empty cars of individuals detained by ICE agents in Eagle County.

"ICE has failed to provide to us the information on the reports of their agents leaving "death cards" in detainee's vehicles in Eagle County," said Hickenlooper.

"When we requested a meeting this week, ICE kicked the can down the road. We need immediate transparency, not deflections. People are terrified and this administration remains unaccountable.

"We will NOT let up until there's a full independent investigation and real accountability."

The "death cards" have a history of being used by white supremacist groups to intimidate people of color. These specific cards found in Colorado had the address and phone number of the Aurora ICE detention facility printed on them.

Hickenlooper recently took to the Senate floor to condemn the racist "death cards," blast ICE's lawlessness, and denounce the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. He also voted against the DHS funding bill because it failed to overhaul ICE.
