Legends of Honors with GCSU alumna Nadya Summer Gutierrez: "Oysters and Seagrass and Marsh-Oh My! Coastal Ecology in an Ever-Changing Environment"

Honors College Monday January 27, 2025

My journey began as a freshman at Georgia College & State University desiring to be soil scientist. Through various research experiences with aquatic macroinvertebrates and an internship with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, I desired to pivot to the marine systems where I spend my days boating through coastal waters and exploring seagrass meadows. I am currently a Ph.D. student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, based out of the Institute of Marine Sciences. My current research projects center around disturbance ecology from hurricane impacts on oyster reefs to implications of habitat fragmentation of seagrass meadows. My recent appointment as a 2024 Quad Fellow has inspired me to pursue a career with the U.S. Department of State centered around international partnerships of coastal resource management.

The Zoom event will take place Feb. 4 from 6 until 7 p.m.
