Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada publishes comments to government consultation on AI transparency

October 23, 2026 - Gatineau, Quebec

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) has published its submission to Innovation, Science, and Economic Development Canada (ISED) in response to its discussion paper on Enhancing trust in artificial intelligence (AI) through increased transparency.

In the submission, the OPC said that it concurs that transparency issues can arise in the five areas identified by ISED: AI-generated content, AI interaction, information about AI systems, AI incidents, and AI agents. It also noted that addressing these areas will be an important step towards ensuring and promoting responsible innovation.

It further notes that the discussion document echoes messaging in the G7 Data Protection and Privacy Authorities Roundtable statement issued in 2025 during the meeting hosted by the Privacy Commissioner of Canada - that transparency is essential to building public trust in AI.
