The City of West Hollywood is proud to co-sponsor I Love Flagging, presented by The Lavender Effect in partnership with SoCal Flagging, at West Hollywood Park, located at 647 N. San Vicente Boulevard.
I Love Flagging is a joyful, energetic, and highly visual four-hour daytime event taking place from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2026. Designed as a fun and inclusive alternative way to celebrate Valentine's Day, the event welcomes people of all ages and abilities. Participants can enjoy music from a DJ, creating an upbeat and welcoming atmosphere, and those interested in learning to flag can take part in free flagging lessons. Flags will be provided, and no RSVP is required.
The Lavender Effect is dedicated to advancing and preserving LGBTQ+ heritage and culture for future generations. "Queer flagging" first emerged in gay clubs in the late 1970s and early 1980s, when discos such as Studio One in West Hollywood encouraged "flaggers" to help energize and sustain the dance floor. As part of WeHo Pride 2024, The Lavender Effect hosted a flagging event as a community group grant recipient, introducing this vibrant cultural tradition to a new audience. Inspired by that success, SoCal Flagging was formed and is now partnering to help organize this Valentine's Day celebration.
