On Wednesday, December 17, Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun held a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway, Espen Barth Eide, who was visiting Korea from December 16 to 17, and exchanged views on ways to facilitate practical cooperation and on regional developments.
Minister Cho noted that the two countries have developed a friendly and cooperative relationship across various fields, including politics and economy, as well as expanded cooperation in the defense industry, particularly with the recent signing of a contract for the supply of additional K9 howitzers. He expressed his hope for further deepening mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation.
Minister Eide appreciated the active high-level exchanges between the two countries, such as the recent visits to Norway by the special envoy of the President of Korea and the Korean Minister of National Defense. He expressed his hope that Korea and Norway would further expand collaboration into future industries, including critical minerals and advanced technologies, in addition to existing areas, such as shipbuilding, maritime affairs and fisheries, and the Arctic.
The two Ministers exchanged views on the situation on the Korean Peninsula and key international issues, including the war in Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, and the global economic order.
