Entergy Texas highlights year-round storm readiness efforts ahead of 2026 hurricane season

THE WOODLANDS, Texas - While hurricane season begins on June 1, severe weather preparation at Entergy Texas is a year-round effort focused on cost-saving grid investments, storm readiness training and proactive maintenance such as vegetation management and deploying smart grid technologies.

With forecasts calling for 13 named storms , including six hurricanes - two of which could become major hurricanes of Category 3 or higher, Entergy Texas is continuing work to strengthen the power grid, train on storm response methods and help Southeast Texas communities stay ready before storms develop.

From conducting large-scale storm response exercises to strengthening and performing proactive maintenance to infrastructure, teams prepare 365 days a year in order to respond safely, quickly and efficiently whenever severe weather impacts Southeast Texas.

Across our service territory, our teams continue modernizing the grid through targeted resilience investments. Since last hurricane season, our teams have installed thousands of new distribution poles, upgraded or modified hundreds of transmission and distribution lines and implemented more than one hundred automated devices that help restore power to customers more quickly during outages.

"Southeast Texas communities know how quickly severe weather can impact daily life, which is why preparation remains a constant focus for our teams," said Frank Shannon, vice president of reliability at Entergy Texas. "We're making strategic upgrades and improvements across our power grid that are designed to minimize outages during severe weather and reduce restoration times if outages occur."

In addition to infrastructure investments, crews continually inspect equipment, patrol power lines, and trim or remove trees and bushes near power lines. Since last hurricane season, our teams have completed thousands of equipment and targeted reliability inspections, patrolled over 9,000 line-miles of transmission and distribution lines, trimmed over 1,300-line miles of vegetation and removed nearly 3,600 hazardous trees.

Entergy Texas power generation teams also prepare year-round for hurricane season by inspecting and testing critical equipment, reviewing emergency response procedures and ensuring power plants are ready to operate amid extreme conditions. Our fuel supply teams also actively manage resources like the Spindletop natural gas storage facility , which helps support reliable power generation during periods of high demand and extreme weather while helping manage fuel costs for our customers.

Entergy Texas is making long-term investments to strengthen the grid before storms strike, helping improve resiliency while reducing future restoration costs for customers. Phase I of the company's resilience plan includes $137 million in strategic projects designed to harden the Southeast Texas power grid, reduce storm-related outages and save customers millions in avoided storm damage and restoration costs over the coming decades.

As everyday expenses continue to rise, the company remains focused on helping keep bills affordable for customers. In 2025, Entergy Texas electric rates were approximately 20% below the national average and have consistently ranked among the lowest in Texas over the past decade.
