The Broker Responsibility Advisory Committee (BRAC) met July 14, 2026, to discuss topics including education requirements for inactive sales agents returning to active status, the growing role of artificial intelligence in the industry, transaction coordination, and transparency related to real estate teams.
The committee continued its discussion on whether additional education should be required for inactive sales agents returning to active practice after an extended period away.
Committee members discussed the possibility of creating a refresher course modeled after Legal Update I and II and the Broker Responsibility Course (BRC) to help returning license holders become familiar with current laws, industry practices, and professional expectations. Other ideas included incorporating an initial assessment to help gauge a license holder's knowledge before completing any refresher education.
The committee agreed to continue exploring the concept.
The committee continued its ongoing discussion about AI and its increasing impact on the real estate industry.
BRAC discussed the importance of monitoring AI developments, sharing emerging issues, and identifying potential risks and opportunities for consumers and license holders.
The committee also reviewed public comments submitted on the topic and emphasized the value of public input as discussions continue. .
The committee continued its discussion on transaction coordinators and possible ways to improve transparency for consumers.
After hearing public input and discussing potential disclosure options, BRAC agreed to table the topic until the next meeting. The committee plans to review additional materials submitted by stakeholders and continue evaluating whether any recommendations should be made.
The committee discussed whether future contract revisions should include additional information identifying a team lead on contract forms. The committee will forward the suggestion to the BLC for consideration during future contract revisions.
During discussion of future agenda items, committee members requested an update on the Real Estate and Appraiser License Management (REALM) Portal, TREC's new system, at the next meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026.
