For those who missed the University of Wyoming Collegiate Chorale preview of its "Wyoming to Wales" tour program, the ensemble will give a free performance Sunday, May 17, at 5 p.m. at St. Matthew's Episcopal Cathedral in Laramie.
Under the direction of Brian Murray and accompanied by pianist Alisson Garcia, the chorale will offer a program of spectacular choral works, ranging from 17th-century polyphony and classic English masterpieces to modern gospel rhythms and contemporary works.
Repertoire features a variety of pieces by composers from the United Kingdom, including Gerald Finzi, Orlando Gibbons, Karl Jenkins, Peter Leech, Paul Mealor, C.V. Stanford and Lucy Walker, as well as those from the United States, including Brandon Boyd, Robert Gibson, Elaine Hagenberg, Achilles Hennessy, Moses Hogan, Susan LaBarr, Alice Parker, Eric Whitacre and Reginal Wright.
The tour begins Friday, May 22, with a stop in Cardiff, Wales, where the ensemble will perform with the Cardiff University Chamber Choir (CUCC) at the School of Music Concert Hall, and also will join CUCC for a brief lunchtime concert at Insole Court, a mansion in Cardiff.
The chorale moves on to Wells, Somerset, to perform a lunchtime concert at the historic Wells Cathedral Monday, May 25, followed by an afternoon concert at St. Mary Abbots Church in London Tuesday, May 26. The chorale's United Kingdom tour also will include a visit to Stonehenge and tours of Cardiff, Bath and London.
Known for its distinguished history and high-level performances, the UW Collegiate Chorale has appeared at numerous state, regional and national conventions for the American Choral Directors Association and the National Association for Music Education. With touring experience that spans international venues in Europe and South America, as well as prestigious American venues such as Avery Fisher Hall and the Grand Teton Music Festival, the choir serves as a musical ambassador for UW.
Following a banner year of performances in 2025 -- including Handel's "Messiah" and Orff's "Carmina Burana" -- the "Wyoming to Wales" concert highlights the technical skill of the current ensemble.
