Murder of journalists in the Gaza Strip, State of Palestine

The Brazilian government vehemently condemns the murder of six Palestinian journalists from the Al-Jazeera network in the Gaza Strip, State of Palestine, in an attack carried out by Israeli forces on the night of August 10. The journalists were hit by an airstrike while in a tent next to Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City.

This new act of blatant violation of international humanitarian law and the exercise of freedom of the press by Israeli forces raises the number of journalists killed in Gaza to more than 240 since the beginning of the conflict. This number is telling of the successive violations committed against press professionals during the period.

Brazil urges the government of Israel to ensure journalists the right to freely and safely perform their work in Gaza, as well as to lift current restrictions on the entry of international press professionals into the territory.
