Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Lisa Franchetti met virtually with Republic of Korea (ROK) Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Yang Yong-mo, Jan. 13.

The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the ironclad U.S. - ROK alliance and emphasized the importance of strengthening maritime security cooperation for the promotion of a peaceful Korean Peninsula.

The CNO discussed her strategic guidance: the Navigation Plan for America's Warfighting Navy, and opportunities to work together on the Joint and combined warfighting ecosystem in the future through exercises, conferences and bi-lateral and multi-lateral engagements.

The two heads of navy also wished each other a happy new year and discussed this year's significant milestones: the 250th anniversary of the establishment of the U.S. Navy and the 80th anniversary of the ROK Navy.

Franchetti thanked Yang for the ROK Navy's support and participation in recent trilateral engagements with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. She emphasized the trilateral relationship is key to peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific, sends a strong deterrent message to any potential adversary, and that she looks forward to advancing this relationship.
