Marion Fire Department Responds to House Fire in 500 Block of W. 8th Avenue


The Marion Fire Department was dispatched at 2:33 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, for a report of a fire in a bedroom in the 500 block of W. 8th Avenue.

The first-arriving crew reported signs of moderate smoke and fire near the rear of the residence and initiated a fire attack. There were no working smoke detectors in the home.

The occupant was awake at the time of the fire and evacuated with two dogs. A third dog was found deceased in the room of origin.

The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical wiring for a fan.

The Marion Fire Department was assisted by the Cedar Rapids Fire Department, Area Ambulance Service and the Marion Police Department.
