Apply now for the Murfreesboro Citizens Academy

Mayor Shane McFarland and Vice Mayor Bill Shacklett will welcome 25 participants to the Citizens Academy on Monday, October 6, 2025, at City Hall.

The eight-week program meets Mondays from 6-8 p.m. and gives residents a behind-the-scenes look at how Murfreesboro's 27 departments operate. The Academy ends with a graduation ceremony on Nov. 24, 2025. Participants will explore how the City tackles the challenges of rapid growth and provides essential services.

There are two ways to complete an application for the 2025 Citizens Academy

Applications are due by 5 p.m., September 22. Applicants will be notified by September 29. NOTE: Preference may be given to Murfreesboro residents who are registered voters.

"The Citizens Academy is a great way to learn how local government works and how residents can get involved," said Vice Mayor Bill Shacklett.
