State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:
Research co-led by UW Professor Todd Surovell, showing that the famous Monte Verde archaeology site in southern Chile is likely much younger than initially believed, has attracted international media attention. Among the outlets covering the study published in the journal Science are The Associated Press, Science News, Reuters, The Guardian, National Geographic and Gizmodo.
While an increase in oil prices is generating higher state and local tax revenues, the broader and likely longer-lasting implications for consumers and the economy are not good, UW economist Rob Godby says in a WyoFile article.
Ali Nejadmalayeri, a UW professor of finance and senior editor at Global Finance Journal, says a new lawsuit filed against Ramaco Resources Inc. is not an unusual type of action, but such lawsuits are rarely successful. Nejadmalayeri is quoted in a Sheridan Press article picked up by the Wyoming Tribune Eagle.
Research by UW's Monteith Shop is documenting the recovery of the Wyoming Range mule deer herd, which was devastated by the severe winter of 2022-23, according to the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. Buckrail also published an article on that topic, noting that the herd had a fawn ratio of 81 fawns per 100 does this year and 83 fawns per 100 does last year -- a high rate. The buck ratio increased as well. The current population estimate is 15,500 animals, up from 13,200 in 2024.
Vulture Watch Wyoming, a program started by the UW Museum of Vertebrates and UW Biodiversity Institute in 2024, was featured in a Cowboy State Daily article.
The unusually warm winter in Wyoming has set the stage for swarms of summer insects, UW entomologist Scott Schell says in a Cowboy State Daily article.
Cowboy State Daily also published an article looking at the origins of UW's Pistol Pete mascot.
