KILLEEN, Texas (May 9, 2025) - This week, the Killeen City Council approved the reallocation of $4.15 million to fund five park projects across the city, significantly enhancing recreational opportunities for residents. The funding, previously allocated as matching funds for a National Park Service grant for the Westside Regional Park project, will now support the development of diverse park facilities throughout Killeen.
The decision to reallocate funding came after the city received no response from the National Park Service regarding a grant application submitted in June 2024. This funding will bring parks to areas in need of outdoor recreational spaces and activities.
The approved funding will be distributed to the following projects:
Bunny Trail Passive Recreation Park (District 4) - $46,600
West Killeen Natural Area & Trail (District 4) - $52,200
Goodnight Ranch Community Park (District 4) - $1,862,000
Purser Heritage Hike & Bike Trail (District 2) - $1,588,000
Saddle Ridge Pocket Park (District 4) - $213,000
Both the West Killeen Natural Area & Trail and Bunny Trail Passive Recreation Park projects were informed by community input gathered through a survey that received 195 responses and a community meeting attended by 14 residents and two council members in August 2024.
The investments are in place to create lasting value for the Killeen community, from natural trails to playground facilities and a splash pad. This is an effort to develop spaces that cater to different recreational needs and preferences across multiple districts.
