Mayor Mike Johnston Announces DOTI Leadership Transition

Published on November 02, 2026

Mayor Mike Johnston today announced that Amy Ford will depart the role of Executive Director of the Department of Transportation & Infrastructure (DOTI), following three years of service to the city. Ford's last day will be Dec. 4.

"I want to thank Amy for her commitment to Denver. Over three years, she has delivered complex projects on time and budget, kept our streets clear and safe, and been a leader on slowing speeds at dangerous corridors. I wish her nothing but the best," said Mayor Mike Johnston. "Few things matter more to Denverites than the ability to get around the city easily and safely. As we transition, we will continue to build on existing bike lanes, trails and street-safety projects - and remain laser-focused on delivering a transportation system that works for all."

Ford has served the city since Dec. 2023, leading on the completion of Colfax BRT, increased investment in the Safe Routes to School initiative, continued implementation of measures under Vision Zero to help reduce road deaths, and most recently the completion of a new pedestrian and bike underpass for the High Line Canal Trail.

"As I transition away from the city to pursue a new role, I look back with immense pride at what we've built together at DOTI - from advancing major projects such as 16th Street and Colfax BRT, to setting the stage for the launch of speed cameras and expanding the SPEED program as a whole, aligning our solid waste programs, addressing significant budget challenges, and working to maintain core services," said Amy Ford. "Our collective efforts have unlocked incredible momentum, and I leave knowing the department is positioned for great success."

DOTI Chief Operating Officer Cindy Patton will serve as Interim Executive Director. As COO, Patton leads more than 600 employees to deliver essential services such as street maintenance, paving, snow operations, traffic signals and signs, street lighting, parking, and solid waste. Patton began her career with the City and County of Denver as an intern. Nearly two decades later, she boasts an impressive portfolio that includes helping to launch Denver's first dockless bike and scooter pilot and securing the funding needed to seed Denver's first shared-mobility and transportation demand management programs.

The city will announce a permanent Executive Director at a later date.
