Hoeven Statement After Senate Democrats Block Consideration of Defense Appropriations Bill

WASHINGTON - Senator John Hoeven, a member of the Senate Defense Appropriations Committee, today released the following statement after Senate Democrats blocked consideration of the Defense Appropriations Bill, legislation to fund the military, including a pay raise for troops, and provide support for key military missions.

"Not only are Senate Democrats refusing to pass a clean, short-term continuing resolution to open the government, now they are blocking consideration of the individual appropriations bills," said Hoeven. "This legislation would fund a military pay raise and support servicemembers' families, while providing support for vital defense missions, including in North Dakota. It makes no sense to block national security funding. We'll continue working to overcome Senate Democrats' obstruction, so we can get government back open and get back to regular order."
