Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and honors African American history, culture, and resilience. The holiday marks June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Texas learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Today, Juneteenth is celebrated nationwide through reflection, education, and community gatherings.
