WHEELING, W.Va., August 21 - Wheeling University begins the 2026-27 academic year with increases in enrollment at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels.
"Wheeling University is excited to welcome our new students to campus this weekend," said Denise Mirasola, Ed.D., Vice President for Enrollment and Student Affairs. "We look forward to helping them throughout their academic journey."
On Friday evening, a New Student Convocation will be held. During the convocation ceremony, faculty and administration will formally accept the new class into the Wheeling University learning community.
On Saturday, all new students will participate in the University's annual Make a Difference Day. Students will undertake service projects around the campus and at various non-profit organizations around the city of Wheeling.
"Make a Difference Day introduces our new students to the University's mission of life, leadership, and service with and among others. This annual tradition helps our students understand the impact serving others can make in the lives of those in our community," added Dr. Vargo.
On Tuesday, August 18, the faculty and staff also participated in a day of service in the community. "Our faculty and staff embody the spirit of the mission of Wheeling University," Dr. Vargo added.
When students begin classes on Monday, August 24, they will notice two renovated classrooms inside of Acker Science Center thanks to donations from alumni and friends.
