Niagara University welcomed Ambassador Chen Li, the consul general of the People's Republic of China in New York City, to campus on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025. The visit commemorated the university's commitment to ongoing collaboration and friendship with the Consulate of the People's Republic of China.
Ambassador Li enjoyed lunch at the university before reviewing existing partnerships between Niagara and Chinese institutions with Provost Dr. Timothy Ireland; Associate Provost/Director of International Education Dr. Chandra Foote; and professors Dr. Bingyang Fang, Dr Lei Han, Dr. Qing Yang, and Dr. Yonghong Tong. First Secretary Lin Yu, Second Secretary Qin Qilun, Education Attaché Yu Yougen, and Lingshan Luo, a visiting student from Hunan First Normal University, were also in attendance. An exchange of gifts concluded the visit.
"We are honored to welcome Ambassador Li to our campus and deeply value the opportunity to strengthen partnerships between our university and schools in China," said Dr. Ireland. "These opportunities open doors for our students to engage globally, enrich our academic community, and prepare our students to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world. We look forward to continuing these conversations and exploring new pathways for collaboration."
Niagara University's partnerships with Chinese institutions include international exchange agreements with schools in Tianjin, Nanning, and Shanghai; a dual-degree program with Hunan First Normal University; and collaboration with Lewiston-Porter Central School District's F-1 Visa Student Program.
