WASHINGTON, D.C. - During the week marking the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) voted against two Republican-backed bills that would further undermine reproductive freedom while diverting public resources away from families and students who need them most.
"These bills don't help women or families. They advance GOP extremism that interferes with personal medical decisions and misuses taxpayer dollars," said Rep. Sykes. "During this week honoring Roe v. Wade, I voted no because women deserve real health care, honest information, and the freedom to make their own choices without political interference."
One measure would expand the use of federal anti-poverty funds for crisis pregnancy centers that are not required to provide comprehensive or medically accurate reproductive health care, raising concerns about accountability and the diversion of limited assistance away from food, housing, and child care. Rep. Sykes has also introduced the Stop Anti-Abortion Disinformation Act to hold these centers accountable for spreading misleading information and ensure people receive medically accurate reproductive health guidance.
The second bill targets college campuses with politically driven pregnancy-related requirements, despite existing federal protections against pregnancy discrimination.
Both measures passed the House and now move to the U.S. Senate, where Rep. Sykes urges lawmakers to reject efforts that undermine reproductive freedom and instead advance policies that genuinely support women, students, and families.
