Rep. Crockett's Statement on Decision Not to Sell Hutchins Warehouse to DHS for ICE Detention Facility

Washington, D.C. -- Today, Rep. Crockett released the following statement: "I am relieved that the owner of the Hutchins warehouse has confirmed they will not sell or lease this property to the Department of Homeland Security for use as an ICE detention facility.

The moment I became aware of these potential plans, my office moved quickly to engage local officials, demand answers, and assess the serious consequences this proposal would have imposed on the City of Hutchins. I also contacted Secretary Kristi Noem directly regarding my concerns about the lack of transparency and the absence of meaningful consultation with the community.

A detention facility of this scale would have placed significant strain on local infrastructure, stretched emergency services, and raised legitimate public safety and humanitarian concerns. These are not decisions that can be made behind closed doors, and they are not decisions that should ever be imposed on a community without its consent.

I am grateful to the residents who spoke out, organized, and refused to be ignored. Their advocacy mattered.

I will continue to demand transparency and accountability from DHS and ICE, and will reject any effort by the federal government that threatens the safety, wellbeing, and financial solvency of TX-30 communities."
