2023 Girls in STEM Symposium
KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Kutztown University is thrilled to announce the return of the Girls in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Symposium 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, 218 and 223 MSU. Hosted by the Departments of Computer Science and Information Technology, Biology, Geography, Mathematics and Physical Sciences, this inspiring event aims to empower and excite young girls, equipping them with the confidence and knowledge to embrace future leadership roles in STEM.
The Girls in STEM Symposium has evolved to encompass a broader range of STEM fields, moving beyond computer science. This expansion aligns with Kutztown University's commitment to fostering interest and excellence in science and technology among young girls. There will be representation from all the STEM departments at KU.
Participants will have the opportunity to engage with STEM professionals from local companies, gaining valuable insights into potential career paths within these dynamic fields. The following companies will be in attendance: Air Products, Andesa Services, East Penn Manufacturing, Generation180, LCCC Workforce Development, PA Dream Team, PPL, Rodale Institute, St. Luke's Emergency Medicine, St Luke's Simulation Center.
This year's symposium welcomes about 150 students from 11 regional high schools. Dr. Lisa Frye, event organizer and department chair of Computer Science and Information Technology, expressed her enthusiasm for the event.
"This is an excellent opportunity for local high school girls to learn about exciting opportunities in STEM fields," Frye said. "The goal of the event is for young women to learn about STEM fields to increase the number of women in these fields."
