PV Solar Permitting

The City of Emeryville Building Division is now offering on-line residential PV Solar permitting. California SB 379 requires most California cities and counties to implement online residential solar permitting with a population of 50,000 or less must comply with this by September 30, 2024. The online permitting platform can verify code compliance and issues permits in real time for a residential solar energy system that is no larger than 38.4 kilowatts. The user-friendly Symbium portal provides licensed contractors access to automated permitting platform that allows initial solar permit applications, verifies code compliance, downloading/uploading supporting pdf documents and allows the City to issue permits in real time for a residential solar energy system. On September 16, 2022, Senate Bill (SB) 379 was approved by the California Governor to establish instantaneous plan review practices and create consistent permitting processes at cities and counties for automated permitting of residential solar and energy storage systems.

The City of Emeryville is proud to announce that it has partnered with Symbium to establish an automated permitting platform that complies with requirements of SB 379.

Contractors and homeowners seeking to pull permits under SB 379 will be able to apply for instantaneous plan review approval via this Symbium portal. Beginning September 30, 2024, you may begin your application below by first verifying the address is within our city limits.

SYMBIUM WIDGET

The use of the new platform is highly encouraged as it facilitates and expedites plan review and permit issuance. However, applicants seeking to apply for residential roof top systems or energy storage systems outside of the platform, or for those that are disqualified from utilizing the system, can still submit electronically via e-TRAKiT. email to [email protected]

All photovoltaic (PV) or energy storage system (ESS) applications not applying under this Symbium portal, will be subject to plan review and must be applied for under one of the following corresponding permit types:

· SOLAR RESIDENTIAL

· SOLAR WITH ENERGY STORAGE RESIDENTIAL

· ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM ONLY RESIDENTIAL
