January 14, 2026 Albuquerque, NM - Chairwoman Barela responds to Albuquerque Journal on CBP's plans to construct a 100+ mile border barrier system in southern NM: "We applaud the Trump Administration for prioritizing a safe and secure southern border and for its plans to construct a 100-plus-mile border barrier system in southern New Mexico. President Trump and Secretary Noem's efforts on the border have, without question, saved lives, dramatically minimized drug trafficking, and protected Americans from harm. It is no surprise that Rep. Gabe Vazquez has condemned this project, as he routinely criticizes any effort to secure the border, demonizes our ICE officers, and takes issue with President Trump's zero-tolerance policy on drug traffickers.
