Traffic Pattern Change in Ōma'o between Ōma'o Road and Mahā Road

Posted on Jun 1, 2026 in Highways News, Main, News

LĪHUʻĒ, Hawai'i - The Hawai'i Department of Transportation (HDOT) notifies highway users of a traffic pattern change in the eastbound direction of Kaumualiʻi Highway in Ōmaʻo, between Ōmaʻo Road and Mahā Road. For safety reasons the far-right lane (truck lane) will be converted to a right-turn-only lane and the left lane will be for through traffic.

The work requiring lane closures is being done nightly from Sunday night to Friday morning, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., as well as during the day with lane shifts between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Striping for the new traffic pattern is estimated to be done by June 5, 2026, weather permitting. Once work is completed, the new traffic patterns will go into effect.

Striping and sign replacements for the overall project, between Kīpū Road and Ōma'o Road, are anticipated to continue until August 2026, weather permitting.
