SEAMEO INNOTECH and APO Explore Partnership on a Regional Policy Framework on AI in Education

On 6 February 2026, APO Secretary-General Dr. Indra Pradana Singawinata met with SEAMEO INNOTECH Centre Director Dr. Majah-Leah V. Ravago to explore potential collaboration on SEAMEO INNOTECH's ongoing project Toward a Future-ready Southeast Asia: A Regional Policy Framework on AI in Education, which targets Southeast Asian countries.

The initiative promotes a holistic approach to harnessing the potential of AI and encourages aligning policy frameworks across countries in the region. It seeks to ensure that AI enhances access to quality education, supports lifelong skill development, and promotes digital equity throughout Southeast Asia. The regional policy framework aims to help countries integrate AI into their education systems in an ethical, inclusive, and future-ready manner in collaboration with ministries of education. Moreover, establishing a regional policy framework will help prevent fragmented, reactive policymaking and foster collaboration, resource sharing, and collective accountability.

Secretary-General Dr. Indra noted that AI is a key priority for APO members in advancing the APO Vision 2030 and achieving accelerated, innovation-led productivity growth. Moving forward, SEAMEO INNOTECH and the APO will continue to explore possible modes of cooperation to realize the objectives of the framework in Southeast Asian countries and deepen the institutional partnership between the two organizations.
