In 1962, President John Kennedy designated May 15 as National Peace Officers' Memorial Day and the week in which it falls as National Police Week. The law was later amended by the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1995, signed by President Bill Clinton, directing the flag of the United States be displayed at half-staff on all government buildings on May 15 each year as a tribute to law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty. Flags will fly at half-staff May 15 at City buildings to commemorate National Peace Officers Memorial Day.
Mayor Goode and the Azle City Council call on all citizens of Azle to show their sincere appreciation to the police officers of this city for keeping our city safe and secure.
