Do you have expired or unneeded prescription drugs at home? Don't let your medicine cabinet become a source of misuse for prescriptions. Studies show that many abused prescription medications come from family and friends - often right from the home.
Additionally, many Americans aren't sure how to safely dispose of unused medicine. Flushing medications down the toilet or tossing them in the trash can be dangerous for both people and the environment.
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is your chance to dispose of medications the right way.
Join the Linn County Sheriff's Office on Saturday, October 25, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
Drop-off location:
The DEA and its partners will collect tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription drugs. Collection sites will not accept syringes, sharps, and illicit drugs. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in their original container. The cap must be tightly sealed to prevent leakage.
Can't make it Saturday?
A secure 24/7 drug drop box is available year-round in the visitor parking lot of the Linn County Sheriff's Office at 310 2nd Ave. SW.
Please do not dispose of needles or sharps in the drop box for safety reasons.
