Denver's Department of Technology Services plays the pivotal role of implementing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in the city. To recognize these efforts, Technology Services, in partnership with other city agency GIS professionals and regional partners, will hold its 24th annual GIS Day celebration on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. virtually on Microsoft Teams.

This year's event highlights the vital role GIS plays across various city agencies and departments. Attendees will see a wide range of GIS products, tools, and applications used daily for safety, public health, climate action, and natural resource management. The event will feature a fast-paced series of moderated lightning talks with Q&A for each speaker, providing a dynamic look at current Denver projects.

Key presentations include:

  • Public Safety: Mapping Abandoned Buildings for 911 Responder Awareness (Denver Fire Department), Crime Analysis and Smart Crime Mapping (Denver Police Department).

  • Public Health & Environment: Licensing with Insight for Tobacco Retail Regulations and Mapping Food Access Inequities (Department of Public Health and Environment), Expanding Urban Farming Through Machine Learning (Department of Public Health and Environment/Jefferson County).

  • Infrastructure & Development: Digital Transformation of Denver's Storm Drainage Master Plan and Integrating a City-wide Transportation Data Collection (Department of Transportation and Infrastructure), Increasing Efficiency Through GIS Inspector Routing (Community Planning and Development).

  • Parks & Natural Resources: Visualizing Landscape Transformation Opportunities (Denver Parks and Recreation Ecology), Office of the City Forester's Annual Report (Denver Parks and Recreation Forestry).

  • Airport & State Initiatives: DEN Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Program and Digitally Transforming Legacy Systems (Denver International Airport), Peak-ing into the Cloud: A Mile-High Perspective (State of Colorado, Governor's Office of Information Technology).
