Homicide detectives have made an arrest regarding the Jan. 14, 2025 murder of Tyrone Crawford, a 64-year-old male resident of Long Beach.
Through their investigation, Homicide detectives identified the suspect as Trayen Gaston, a 30-year-old male resident of Long Beach.
At approximately 8:48 a.m., officers responded to the 3000 block of Gold Star Drive regarding a possible suicide. Officers arrived on scene and contacted a male adult victim with a life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and determined the victim deceased. Due to the nature of the incident, Homicide detectives responded to further the investigation.
The suspect was on scene when officers arrived and was taken into police custody as part of the investigation. Detectives learned the suspect and victim shared a residence. During their investigation, detectives recovered evidence that indicated Gaston as the suspect and arrested him for murder. He was transported to Long Beach City Jail for booking. Gaston was booked on one count of murder, one count of prohibited possessor in possession of a firearm, and one count of prohibited possessor in possession of ammunition. Bail was set at $2,000,000.
The motive for the shooting and the circumstances of the incident are still under investigation.
Detectives will present the case later this week to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for filing consideration.
