SGMC Health recognized Holly Turner, Lane Wainright, and Kris-Anne Harris as the latest recipients of the health system's Safe Care Award. These 3 team members demonstrated extraordinary attention to detail and compassion in situations that directly impacted patient safety and well-being.

Turner, a Licensed Practical Nurse, was honored for identifying a surgical consent error utilizing the Stop, Think, Act, Review (STAR) safety tool to verify the physician's orders. Her quick action ensured the consent was corrected and the patient received the appropriate care.

Wainright, Speech Pathologist, and Harris, Radiology Tech, were recognized for uncovering suspected neglect during a routine study. Their compassionate questioning and advocacy led to immediate intervention, ensuring the patient received the necessary resources.

The Safe Care Award is part of SGMC Health's journey to become a High Reliability Organization (HRO), a designation that reflects an organization-wide commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement. Recipients of the award exemplify core HRO principles such as adherence to safety protocols, proactive risk identification, and a commitment to mentoring and knowledge sharing. These individuals exemplify SGMC Health's mission to deliver safe, high-quality care to every patient, every time.

SGMC Health encourages all team members, patients, and community members to recognize acts of excellence in patient safety. Nominations for the Safe Care Award can be submitted at sgmc.org/recognition.
