Just months after a fire destroyed a playground structure at Fort Worth's Oakmont Park one Saturday morning in February, a replacement play structure has been installed.
Come celebrate: Join a ribbon cutting at the new playground at 5:30 p.m. June 18. District 3 Councilmember Michael Crain will provide brief remarks, and there will be popsicles to help everyone stay cool.
Oakmont Park is at 7000 Bellaire Drive South.
Bigger and better: The burned playground equipment was promptly removed. There are now two separate play pieces at Oakmont Park: one to serve 5- to 12-year-olds and one for the younger set, ages 2-5.
Park & Recreation Department officials said the original equipment was a composite piece, and the replacement had to be built as two separate units to achieve similar play value.
Replacement cost for the playground equipment is $65,000 plus the cost of installation materials and staff time.
Case update: City staff said there are no solid leads on the suspects involved in the February fire at the park.
