Washington, D.C. - The House Appropriations Committee this week advanced the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2027, legislation supported by Congressman Juan Ciscomani that delivers key investments for Arizona's water security and local critical minerals production. The bill passed the full House Appropriations Committee with a vote of 34-25.
As the sole appropriator representing Arizona in either the House or Senate, Congressman Ciscomani worked to ensure Arizona's priorities and the needs of local communities were included in the bill, advancing efforts to strengthen America's domestic supply chain for critical minerals and reduce reliance on foreign adversaries such as China.
During a recent district visit, the Congressman hosted Secretary of the Interior Doug Bergum at the University of Arizona, which is home to a world-class mining research laboratory. There, Congressman Ciscomani emphasized Southern Arizona's wealth of critical minerals, including copper, and the need to grow domestic production.
The bill includes targeted investments to advance mining production technologies and critical mineral extraction, supporting the nation's supply chain and national security. This legislation also supports that strengthening America's energy future through expanded nuclear capacity and invests in our leadership in the global energy market by providing $50.4 Billion to that Department of Energy. Additionally, the legislation provided $355 million for Water Conservation and Delivery programs, including nearly $50 million specifically for water conservation in the Lower Colorado River Basin. These investments directly supported Arizona's long-term water security. These provisions aligned with Congressman Ciscomani's work as Co-Chair of the Colorado River Caucus and member of the Public Lands Caucus, promoting long-term solutions for water and natural resource stewardship in the West.
"I was proud to support the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Bill, which delivers meaningful investments for Arizona's future," said Congressman JuanCiscomani." "From strengthening the Colorado River and supporting long-term water conservation efforts to expanding domestic critical minerals production, this bill helps secure our local economy, bolsters our national security, and protects our vast resources in the American West. Southern Arizona has the resources and innovation to help lead America's energy future, and I will continue fighting to ensure our communities remain at the center of that effort."
These investments aimed to strengthen Arizona's water security and promote responsible development of natural resources. Congressman Ciscomani remained focused on addressing long-term challenges with bipartisan consensus for the benefit of Arizona.
The Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act was the sixth House Appropriations subcommittee funding bill to pass the full committee for Fiscal Year 2027.
