Importance of Spain’s support to Serbia’s European integration process

State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nevena Jovanović spoke today with a delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Senate of the Kingdom of Spain about the further development of relations between the two countries and the improvement of overall cooperation.

Jovanović emphasised that Serbia, in the year of marking the 110th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with Spain, attaches great importance to the development of cooperation with this friendly country, with which it shares a commitment to respecting international law, multilateralism and dialogue.

The State Secretary stressed Serbia's firm commitment to further strengthening of political dialogue and overall cooperation at all levels in the coming period.

She expressed her gratitude for Spain's firm and consistent position in preserving the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia, as well as for the active engagement it provides Serbia in international organisations.

Jovanović assessed that such a stance is of crucial importance in the conditions of the extremely difficult position of the Serb population in Kosovo and Metohija, which faces serious challenges in the exercise of basic human rights, as well as threats to security and survival.

At the same time, the State Secretary emphasised the importance of Spain's support to Serbia's European integration process and confirmed the country's readiness to continue implementing reforms and further progress on the European path.

In this context, she stated that an operational team has been formed to coordinate the implementation of all obligations on Serbia's European path.

Jovanović welcomed Spain's decision to participate in Specialised Expo 2027 in Belgrade and said that Serbia strives to ensure that the development of economic cooperation continues to be accompanied by a high level of political relations, continuing the tradition of friendship and partnership between the two countries, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
