Today, the Commission has presented its 28th Regime proposal for an optional but unified set of company law rules across the Single Market. Commenting on the publication, BusinessEurope Director General Markus J. Beyrer said:
"European businesses welcome this proposal as it could make it easier for entrepreneurs and companies to incorporate, scale-up and operate across all Member States. It could also help with attracting investment by offering a reliable and simple EU corporate framework.
We will, with our members, have to analyse the proposal in detail. However, we are pleased that the 28th regime is being proposed as a regulation and is open to all types of companies. It also includes interfaces and requirements that will potentially reduce valuable time when setting up a company and the high costs that come with it.
Moreover, we welcome the focus primarily on company law as including other areas such as labour law would generate long debates (including on EU competences) and seriously delay or jeopardise the chances of adoption.
While this optional regime is an important foundation for companies to set up and grow across the EU, the EU must not shy away or delay work on other important reforms that will generally help boosting competitiveness in Europe which we laid out in our From Ambition to Delivery publication. Together, these measures will help the business environment and investment for all forms of companies in the EU."
