Chairman Smith: U.S. Farmers, Manufacturers, and Innovators Win Under Trump’s Trade Deal with Indonesia

WASHINGTON, D.C. - President Trump has delivered another win for American workers and farmers thanks to a new trade deal with Indonesia that was formerly announced today in a joint statement on the framework for a reciprocal trade agreement. This agreement follows a period over the past four years where the United States went from a $450 million agricultural trade surplus to a $1.1 billion deficit with Indonesia. The new trade deal reverses that trend by boosting American farmers, manufacturers, and innovators while increasing access to critical minerals.

Key Details of the Agreement:

• Eliminates approximately 99 percent of tariff barriers for a full range of U.S. industrial and U.S. food and agricultural products exported to Indonesia.
• Indonesia commits to address and prevent non-tariff barriers to U.S. food and agricultural products in its market and to address barriers impacting digital trade, services, and investment.
• Removes restrictions on exports to the United States of industrial commodities, including critical minerals like nickel.
