WATCH: LAWLER, FHWA ADMINISTRATOR MCMASTER HIGHLIGHT SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS NEAR PUTNAM HOSPITAL
The approximately $5 million project will include a new roundabout, improved sightlines, upgraded drainage, and other roadway safety enhancements. With the intersection serving thousands of motorists daily and providing access to Putnam Hospital, the improvements will help make travel safer for residents, hospital staff, patients, and first responders.
"Getting this project to the construction phase has taken years of work from our local, state, and federal partners. I've worked to help advance this project and secure the federal investment needed to get it done. These improvements are about making our roads safer and ensuring patients, families, and first responders can get to Putnam Hospital safely. I appreciate Administrator McMaster and our local partners for working together to move this project forward," said Congressman Lawler.
"Every day, patients, families, hospital staff and emergency responders rely on these roads to reach Putnam Hospital, which is less than a quarter mile from this intersection," said Derek Anderson, president of Northwell's Putnam Hospital and Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco. "That's why this project matters. The planned improvements will help enhance safety, improve traffic flow and make access to the hospital more reliable. In health care, that matters because during an emergency, every second counts."
"Bringing the first roundabout to Putnam County is an exciting milestone and an important investment in the future of our transportation infrastructure," said Assemblyman Matt Slater, (R-C-Yorktown). "As a member of the Assembly Transportation Committee, I understand how critical it is to secure funding for projects that directly impact the safety of our communities. I was proud to secure $1.5 million in state funding to help make this $10 million project possible, especially at an intersection that serves as such an important access point to Putnam Hospital."
The project is funded through a combination of federal, state, and county resources, with the federal government covering 80 percent of the total cost. Lawler continues to work with local officials and federal partners to advance critical infrastructure investments throughout the Hudson Valley.
