A photo exhibition that explores decay, disappearance and dysfunction is currently on display at the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College. Photographic Poem Inventions was created by H. Michael Sanders, professor emeritus of Media Communications at UC Blue Ash. The exhibition, free and open to the public, is located in the UC Blue Ash Art Gallery (4131 Cooper Road, Blue Ash, OH) through April 24.

A reception for the artist is scheduled from 6-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 16 in the art gallery. The reception is open to the public and free refreshments will be provided.

Regular gallery hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 1-3 p.m. A print catalogue of the exhibition will be available at no cost in the gallery, and a digital version will be posted on the UC Blue Ash Art Gallery website.

The exhibit features photography by Sanders that explores "poetic images of decay, disappearance, dysfunction of language and curiously juxtaposed fragments from a myopic visual universe.

"I've attempted to present my photographs as a type of visual poetry that function as metaphors related to both the visual subject matter in the images as well as the emotions and ideas generated by my near-sighted or myopic vision when encountering these subjects," Sanders added. "Topics addressed include decay as a metaphor for the passing and disappearance of all things; loss of language and failure to communicate; and the way multiple images can interact with one another and written titles to create poetic sequences."

Sanders founded the Media Communications & Technology degree program at UCBA in 1997, was the founding unit head of the academic department when it was formed in 2002, and taught photography, film and other media courses at the College for 40 years prior to his retirement as a full-time faculty member in May 2024. He continues to teach a course in American Film Noir each semester as an emeritus faculty member.
