Camp Sekani Update 09/25/26

Incredible progress has been made towards hazard mitigation and trails restoration over the past few weeks, and we'd like to share an update and re-opening plan.

Department of Natural Resources' Hazard Mitigation Work & Urban Forestry

DNR completed a good majority of hazard tree removals at the site before their work was paused due to the Spokane Complex Fires. We are so grateful for their skills and resources.

DNR has elected to hand the site back over to us, and our Parks & Recreation Urban Forestry team recently completed additional hazard tree removals.

Urban Foresty will continue monitoring the area.

Evergreen East Mountain Bike Alliance Trail Rehabilitation

Over the past week, our incredible volunteer partners at Evergreen East Mountain Bike Alliance assessed and rehabbed trails, filled in burned out stump holes along trails, and rebuilt the Leap of Faith Ramp.

We simply could not do this without them - thank you Evergreen East for your incredible care and dedication to Beacon Hill.

Re-opening for Camp Sekani Trails & Disc Golf Course

We're pleased to re-open Camp Sekani trails and disc golf course on Saturday, September 26, 2026.

A few very important notes:

• Visitors are strongly urged and requested to remain on trails in the burned area, as the landscape looks very different and unknown hazards may still exist.
• Please help us by reporting any trail or environmental issues to [email protected] and [email protected]
• The parking lot at the Camp Sekani trailhead is closed for construction. Please park at Boulder Beach, John Sheilds Park, or Minnehaha Park (east gravel lot). No parking on Upriver Drive unless in a designated pullout.
• During and after wind and rain events, trail conditions may change with potential debris on the trails and water erosion - ride with care.
• Many trail marker signs were burned and need to be replaced which Evergreen will be working on throughout the season. Visitors looking for a map of the area, trail names and difficulties should visit https://www.evergreenmtb.org/trails/beacon-hill-camp-sekani

The Disc Golf Course will be fully open, except for hole #1 due to the Make Beacon Hill Public Phase II construction project (see below).

Ongoing Mitigation Work

• There is some erosion we will have to mitigate through seeding and possibly other means. Both the Parks & Recreation/Urban Forestry team and Evergreen East will continue watching for issues.
• There will be volunteer opportunities as we move into mid/late October for seeding the burn area and continued trail improvements. View all upcoming Evergreen East events and volunteer opportunities.

Make Beacon Hill Public Phase II Construction

The Camp Sekani parking lot and trailhead are closed for construction on the Make Beacon Hill Public Phase II project.

The parking lot is being expanded to accommodate more visitors, plus a new three-stall restroom building, lighting, fencing, and trailhead cameras.

Once the Camp Sekani lot wraps up (likely spring 2027), we'll move construction to John Sheilds Park, which will also receive a trailhead parking lot expansion, a boulder-themed playground, adaptive trail, pedestrian crossing, lighting, fencing, and interpretive signs. This work will run through summer 2027.

Those visiting the park must keep out of the construction zone and there is no trail access through the construction site. Please respect trail closure signs for your safety and the safety of construction crews.
