Guatemala City, July 15, 2025.- As part of an institutional mission, representatives from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) participated in the event "Energy Sector Opportunities in Guatemala", which brought together over 110 Colombian and international energy sector entrepreneurs interested in learning more about Guatemala's PEG-5 and PET-3 tender processes, both critical to expanding and strengthening the country's electricity grid.
At the event, Guatemala's Director to CABEI, Mario Jacobs, outlined the Bank's financial instruments available to support energy initiatives, particularly in the context of the PEG-5 and PET-3 bids. He emphasized the importance of strong technical and financial partnerships to ensure the success of these processes and deliver positive impacts in terms of coverage and service quality.
Colombia's Director to CABEI, Alba Nury Martínez, highlighted the Bank's institutional strengths, high credit rating, and extensive experience in structuring infrastructure projects across the region, positioning CABEI as a strategic partner for mobilizing both regional and international capital toward high-impact investments.
The event was organized by the Embassy of Guatemala in Colombia and included representatives from Guatemalan government institutions such as the Ministry of Energy and Mines, Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as energy companies ENERGUATE and EEGSA.
The mission concluded with a technical visit to TransMiCable, a cable car-style mass transit system in Bogotá. The visit offered firsthand insight into the system's design, operations, and social impact, connecting hard-to-reach neighborhoods to the broader city through a 3.34-kilometer line. The experience provided valuable lessons that could be adapted to the geographic and social context of Central American cities.
Technical exchanges like this allow CABEI to strengthen its role as a regional facilitator of innovative infrastructure solutions, ones that not only enhance urban mobility but also promote more equitable and sustainable territorial planning across the region.
