Rep. Smucker Supports Reconciliation 2.0, The Secure America Act

WASHINGTON - Representative Lloyd Smucker (PA-11), Vice Chairman of the House Budget Committee, voted in favor of the Secure America Act (S. 2), the budget reconciliation bill that provides $70 billion in funding over the next three years for U.S. Customs and Border Protection and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Rep. Smucker made the following statement:

"For months, Democrats have blocked our efforts to keep Americans safe. Republicans passed the Secure America Act to fully fund ICE and Border Patrol, providing law enforcement with the resources they need to protect our communities and maintain the most secure border in American history.

"While Democrats put partisan politics ahead of public safety, Republicans stand with the brave men and women who put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities. We refuse to let Democrats' failure to govern stand in the way of delivering on our promises to the American people."

Rep. Smucker delivered remarks on the House floor urging support of this legislation:

Remarks as delivered:

Thank you, Mr. Speaker.

It's like the Democrats have developed amnesia. They talk about high prices, but inflation went to 9 percent, triple what it is today, during the Biden years. It averaged more than double what it is today.

And talk about working class Americans, Democrats, by voting against the One Big Beautiful Bill, voted for what would have been the largest tax increase on working families in history.

Had Republicans not voted to pass that bill. And then, Democrats held hostage $14 million in wages from working Americans by shutting down the government, and costing the American economy $11 billion.

Despite their efforts to undermine the success of the Working Families Tax Cuts, we are still seeing strong job numbers and a resilient economy as a result of Republican policies.

But let's talk about the border for just a second.

Maybe it's not amnesia, maybe they want the thousands of people pouring across the border, the caravans that came across the border during the Biden years.

President Trump was right; it just takes a president to make that change and to secure the border.

The American people deserve a secure border, they want a secure border, they deserve a functioning immigration system and they deserve a government that's focused on them-not these partisan games.

Today, by passing this bill we stand ready to finish the job of funding border security, restoring immigration enforcement, and putting the safety and interests of American citizens first.

I urge support for this legislation, and I yield back.
