Prime Planet, Star Viewing: JCDO Hosts Star Parties on March 14 and 21

Mar 13, 2026

Don't miss a chance at discovery, accessibility and cosmic wonder at WNC's Jack C. Davis Observatory!

Star Parties, which are free to the public, are scheduled for Saturdays, March 14 and 21, from 6:30 to 11:30 p.m. Conditions should be ideal for telescope viewing of planets and stars.

"Both Uranus and Jupiter are well-positioned for observation," said JCDO Director Dr. Thomas Herring. "Uranus is a nice little fuzzy, blue dot, but Jupiter looks spectacular and the four Galilean moons are easy to see in a telescope. We'll also be able to see my favorite active star formation region, M42 the Orion Nebula, and some excellent galaxies including Andromeda, Bode's Galaxy, and the Cigar Galaxy."

Jack C. Davis Observatory is located at 2269 Vanpatten Ave. on the north end of the WNC campus.
