ATLANTA - State Representative Beth Camp (R-Concord), chair of the House Judiciary Juvenile Committee, was recently appointed by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve on the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on the Impact of Online Platforms on Georgia Youth and the Joint Study Committee on Evaluating Escalating Costs in Georgia's Foster Care System.
"I extend my deepest gratitude to Speaker Burns for the opportunity to serve on these two important study committees this interim," said Chairlady Camp. "Protecting Georgia's children and strengthening support for vulnerable families remain among the Georgia House's top priorities. While the General Assembly made meaningful progress this past session in addressing the dangers posed by online platforms and supporting our foster care system, there is still more work ahead. I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues to study these challenges and develop thoughtful policy solutions that better protect and serve Georgia's children."
The House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on the Impact of Online Platforms on Georgia Youth will evaluate the effects of online platforms on minors to strengthen safety protections, address mental health concerns and promote age-appropriate access to online content.
Speaker Burns also appointed the following study committee members: Speaker Pro Tem Jan Jones (R-Milton), State Representatives Rob Clifton (R-Evans), Johnny Chastain (R-Blue Ridge), Todd Jones (R-South Forsyth), Brad Thomas (R-Holly Springs), Anne Allen Westbrook (D-Savannah), Lydia Glaize (D-Fairburn), Debra Bazemore (D-South Fulton), Tangie Herring (D-Macon) and Shawn Conroy, Consumer Protection Division, Georgia Attorney General's Office.
Created by Senate Resolution 622, the Joint Study Committee on Evaluating Escalating Costs in Georgia's Foster Care System will examine the existing framework of the delivery of out of home care services, wrap-around services and all related costs to determine future availability of resources and leverage efficiencies to achieve the best possible outcomes for foster children.
Speaker Burns also appointed the following study committee members: State Representatives Joseph Gullett (R-Dallas), Katie Dempsey (R-Rome), Brent Cox (R-Dawsonville), Mary Margaret Oliver (D-Decatur) and Esther Panitch (D-Sandy Springs).
