We are excited to welcome renowned global health expert Rebecca Martin to the Sabin Vaccine Institute. Recognized internationally for her leadership in developing and implementing immunization programs and strengthening health systems, Martin will become Sabin's President of Global Immunization effective July 21.
In this role, she will oversee Sabin's global immunization programs, including building global communities of practice, identifying barriers and creating solutions to improve vaccine access and delivery of current and new vaccines, and conducting epidemiological research to support immunization. Sabin's Global Immunization team works with local and national governments as well as academic, global, and philanthropic partners to put communities at the heart of solutions that tackle urgent vaccination challenges, particularly for routine immunizations.
Martin's extensive experience includes her current role as Vice President for Global Health at Emory University, and that of Director of the Emory Global Health Institute and professor in global health. Prior to Emory, she spent 24 years with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), including ten years in Kenya, Tanzania, and Denmark working on disease elimination strategies and policies, implementation of the U.S. government's President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR); health management information systems (HMIS); monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and human capacity development, plus new vaccine introductions. Prior to Emory, she served six years as Director of the CDC's Center for Global Health, then the largest operating unit at the CDC.
