After a week of fierce voting via Facebook, four flavorful finalists have been named in the search for Bama's Best Surf & Turf, sponsored by Sweet Grown Alabama.

The Flavorful Four are:

  • Gather in Atmore - the "Shipwreck" (twin filets of beef, Conecuh creamed corn, crab cakes, bacon caramel green beans and shrimp sauce)
  • The Old Mill in Dothan - steak and grouper
  • Big Mike's in Thomasville - filet mignon with shrimp skewer
  • Crawmama's in Guntersville - 14-ounce ribeye and grilled shrimp on bed of rice

Later this month, the Flavorful Four will host a trio of judges ready to taste-test contenders for Bama's Best Surf & Turf. The winner will receive bragging rights, a cash prize, a plaque and features on "Simply Southern TV" and in the Alabama Farmers Federation's Neighbors magazine.

The promotion is part of Sweet Grown Alabama's mission to connect consumers with local products - and the farmers, makers and fishermen who make it all possible.

"It's been incredible to see folks rally behind their favorite local restaurants that really take advantage of our state's bounty," said Sweet Grown Alabama Director Ellie Watson. "We're searching for Bama's Best Surf & Turf because we know our state offers the best of both worlds - high-quality beef produced by hard-working farmers and delicious seafood grown in the Gulf."

She added, "We're excited to visit these Flavorful Four restaurants and discover who really serves up Bama's Best Surf & Turf!"

Sweet Grown Alabama recently partnered with the Alabama Department of Conservation & Natural Resources to continue the legacy of the Eat Alabama Seafood program. Bama's Best Surf & Turf highlights the unified state brand, which promotes the men and women who fill Alabamians' plates with delicious local food, whether from land or sea.
