On 9 February 2026, Mr Zhou Yunliang, Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Cyprus, attended and addressed the China-Cyprus Spring Festival Celebration Gala 2026. Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides delivered a video speech. The event was attended by H.E. Kostas Koumis, representative of the President of the Republic of Cyprus and Deputy Minister of Tourism, H.E. Nikolas Papadopoulos, President of the Democratic Party of Cyprus, as well as over 500 participants, including Cypriot friends from various sectors, diplomatic envoys from other countries, members of the Chinese community, Chinese businesspeople, and teachers and students from the Confucius Institutes in Cyprus.
Chargé d'Affaires Zhou pointed out that China's development is charging ahead, imbued with vigor and vitality; China's diplomacy is moving forward, demonstrating responsibility and commitment; and the China-Cyprus relationship is advancing steadily, fostering greater mutual trust and cooperation. As the Year of the Horse would soon come, he wished both China and Cyprus prosperous and secure, and wished the China-Cyprus friendship strong and vibrant.
President Christodoulides extended his New Year greetings to President Xi Jinping and the Chinese people. He reaffirmed Cyprus' firm commitment to the one-China principle. He also expressed readiness to further deepen Cyprus-China friendship and promote constructive EU-China dialogue.
Participants enjoyed splendid cultural performance, experienced artificial intelligence, exchanged New Year greetings, and celebrated their profound friendship.
