YVSF Recovered a Loaded Firearm After a Traffic Stop in Dorchester

At about 9:21 PM, on Thursday, October 24, 2024, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested Paul Bennett, 51, of Brockton, on firearm charges.

Officers were on patrol in the area of Washington Street when they observed a motor vehicle without its headlights illuminated. Officers activated their cruiser's emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop.

Officers made contact with the occupants of the vehicle and determined that the driver's license was cancelled. After further investigation, officers requested the occupants to exit the vehicle. Officers conducted a pat frisk of the vehicle and recovered a firearm.

The firearm was later determined to be a Glock Pistol with fourteen rounds in a high-capacity magazine. Officers also recovered an empty box of ammunition, and a Glock grip extender.

Bennett was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
