ATLANTA - State Representative Ginny Ehrhart (R-Powder Springs) today announced the inclusion of $350,000 in the House's version of the Fiscal Year 2027 (FY 2027) budget to support Cobb County's Child Support Enforcement Unit within the District Attorney's Office.
"Protecting Georgia's children has long been a priority of mine during my service in the legislature," said Rep. Ehrhart. "I am thrilled to announce that the Georgia House of Representatives agreed with my recommendation and appropriated this funding in our version of the state budget."
Rep. Ehrhart notes that during the COVID-19 pandemic, significant yearly funding for the Cobb's Enforcement Unit lapsed, and the office was never restored to the essential base level required to operate one of Georgia's largest child support enforcement offices. Rep. Ehrhart emphasizes that the newly secured funds are crucial for Georgia's children, enabling the office to be fully staffed and to pursue subsistence funds for the state's most vulnerable families.
"The work of the Cobb Child Support Enforcement Unit is vital and clearly one of the truly nonpartisan efforts our elected officials need to prioritize," added Rep. Ehrhart.
Rep. Ehrhart worked with House Appropriations Subcommittee on Human Resources Chairwoman Katie Dempsey (R-Rome) to secure this funding within the House's FY 2027 budget.
The House's FY 2027 budget, or House Bill 974, passed out of the House with bipartisan support on Tuesday, March 10, and was immediately transmitted to the Senate for their consideration.
Representative Ginny Ehrhart represents the citizens of District 36, which includes a portion of Cobb County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2018 and currently serves as the Secretary and Treasurer of the House Majority Caucus. She also serves as Vice Chair of the Information and Audits and Intragovernmental Coordination committees, as well as Secretary of the Regulated Industries Committee. She also serves on the Higher Education, Interstate Cooperation, Technology and Infrastructure and Transportation committees.
