AUBURN, NY - Representative John W. Mannion (NY-22) today announced $4.1 million in federal funding for two major infrastructure and economic development projects in Cayuga County.
Cayuga County will receive $3.1 million to replace the bridge to Deauville Island at Emerson Park. The new bridge will ensure safe access for construction vehicles and visitors, support planned investments including a public amphitheater and playground, improve accessibility, and protect one of Cayuga County's most visited waterfront destinations.
The Town of Sennett will receive $1 million to support the installation of new water mains, valves, hydrants, and an emergency interconnection to the Town of Skaneateles. The project will help address well quantity and water quality issues, reduce costs for private water treatment, improve fire protection, and strengthen infrastructure to support future growth.
Representative John W. Mannion said, "This funding will help bring reliable public water to the Town of Sennett, improve safety and access at Emerson Park, and support long-term economic growth in Cayuga County. I'll keep working with Cayuga County, the Town of Sennett, and local partners to secure federal resources that improve the infrastructure and quality of life across Central New York and the Mohawk Valley."
Chairman of the Cayuga County Legislature Jonathan Anna said, "This award allows Cayuga County to move forward with a long-needed bridge replacement while saving local taxpayers millions of dollars. Securing outside funding for projects like this is one of the most effective ways we can improve public infrastructure, protect county assets, and reduce costs to our residents. Every grant dollar we bring into Cayuga County helps lessen the burden on local property taxpayers, and we remain committed to finding opportunities that strengthen our community while continuing our efforts to reduce the local tax burden. I also want to thank Congressman John Mannion for his support and advocacy in helping secure this funding, as well as our federal partners who recognize the importance of investing in critical infrastructure throughout our region."
The $4.1 million for Cayuga County and the Town of Sennett comes from the Northern Border Regional Commission, a federal-state partnership that supports economic and community development in rural communities across New York, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.
Representative Mannion has made infrastructure funding for NY-22 a top priority. In addition to these NBRC awards, Representative Mannion is working with the Town of Sennett and Cayuga County on several Community Project Funding requests for Fiscal Year 2027 to make necessary water and sewer improvements and enhance emergency operations.
