Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe Holds Reception Marking the 77th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China

On 16 September 2026, H.E. Zhou Ding, Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, hosted a reception to mark the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Nearly 300 guests attended the event, including Honourable Ambassador Dr. Frederick Shava, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development of Zimbabwe; senior officials from Zimbabwe's government, ruling party and defence forces; members of the diplomatic corps; and representatives of Chinese enterprises and the local Chinese community. 

Ambassador Zhou outlined for guests the notable achievements of Chinese modernisation and China's foreign policy vision. He noted that in January this year, H.E. President Xi Jinping sent a heartfelt reply to Zimbabwe's liberation war veterans, further cementing the long-standing friendship between the two countries. Practical China-Zimbabwe cooperation has bolstered Zimbabwe's economic growth and improved local livelihoods. Activities held under the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges have drawn the peoples of the two nations closer together. China stands ready to work with Zimbabwe to further advance the building of the all-weather China-Zimbabwe community with a shared future. 

Speaking on behalf of the Government of Zimbabwe, Minister Shava extended congratulations on the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and expressed appreciation for China's enduring support. He stated that Zimbabwe will embrace China's major global initiatives, seize opportunities created by China's zero-tariff policy, and further consolidate bilateral cooperation. 

Two videos were screened during the reception, highlighting China's landscapes and achievements, as well as milestones in China-Zimbabwe relations. The programme also featured a traditional Chinese costume show and a medley of songs in both Chinese and Shona performed by Zimbabwean artists.
